Tattoo removal white spot?

I got my tattoo removed. The tattoo itself is completely gone but I'm left with completely white area where the tattoo formerly was. I'm white skinned & fairly pale but the white area is extremely white & doesn't seem to be taking any color when I'm in the sun. Has anyone had this happen before?
